She’s trying hard to be virtuous, but evil keeps nuzzling her. And the nuzzling feels sooooo delicious!

I used to be someone who was in control of her life. I was an adult. Responsible and mature. But then I took over the Angel Network, my sister’s demon quashing business, and my life just went to hell…literally!

Part of the problem is, of course, my new partner, Slayer. He’s cocky and opinionated and just so…male. Forget that when he’s nearby my body just about melts with desire. Forget that it’s nearly impossible for us to work together. Forget that dealing with dark worlders on a daily basis is death to my better nature. I just want to prove to Astra that I can run her business as well or even better than she did.

But I can’t catch a break.

What are the chances that one of my first clients would be the Queen of the Hellhounds and that she would drag me to Hell, get me entangled with my dangerously unstable ex-boyfriend, or set me on a path that would nearly kill me a hundred ways to Sunday?

There have to be easier ways to make a living than this.

5 stars

Lots of humor and adventure:

“This is the second book I’ve read by this author, the first being the first in this series, Bedeviled & Beguiled. Both of which I enjoyed very much. At first I was concerned I would be lost since I hadn’t read the rest of the series, but you can jump right in on this one since it focuses on Darma. I can’t say enough how much I’ve enjoyed these books. Once I started reading I found I didn’t want to put it down.”

Great read. Wonderful:

“Great read!! Wonderful I laugh, cried and couldn’t wait to see what happens. Once you start the book you want to keep reading till the end. Can’t wait till the next one.”

heart

I dropped my air booger down at the Phelps Castle and sat for a moment, eyes closed, trying to contain a rage that felt bigger than I was. If it was the last thing I ever did, I was gonna get my revenge on the contemptible Slayer for what he’d done.

I shifted against the seat, grimacing as a heavy wetness caused a giant sucking sound on the seat. A sour, butcher shop smell wafted upward and I clenched my fists, which I was holding away from my body because I didn’t want to touch the chunks of gore covering my fine, leather outfit. A bloody string of something I refused to identify trailed from my hair. My cheeks were stiff under a drying coat of blood.

“Open door.”

The booger’s elderly electronic brain hesitated for a beat, a confused whirring sound preceding a final click before the door lifted upward. I very carefully shifted my legs outside and straightened away from the car, shuddering when a heavy chunk of something slimy plopped onto the seat behind me.

“I’m going to kill him slowly, one hateful cell at a time.”

“Seal and sanitize,” I told the booger. The door jumped downward and stuck, rising again with a clank, and then finally eased shut. The interior glowed green as the booger struggled to incinerate the goop and gore I’d deposited inside. I didn’t even want to think about what the process would leave behind. If I was lucky it would just be a fine residue of gray ash. If I suffered my usual luck, or lack there-of, I’d be forced to remove a charred hunk of demon flesh from my seat in the morning. I shoved the horrid thought away and buried it under soothing thoughts of my revenge against Slayer.

Sloshing toward the large, arched doorway in the back wall of the castle, I scanned the heights of the dark stone edifice. By habit, I looked for signs that my father, James Phelps, Seraphim in the Angelic choir and God’s right hand man, was home. The façade was dark, the windows like black, unblinking eyes unfavorably judging me as I approached.

I realized as I reached the door that I’d have to touch the handle to open it. My hands were painted in green demon blood with strings of blackened flesh clinging to them. Touching stuff wasn’t an option. Rage flared again and it ignited my last nerve. I’d have to space shift into my room. I hated to do it, but the alternative was coating everything I touched with disgusting refuse and then having to clean it all up. Besides, my father would know what I’d been up to if I left the demon’s magic signature all over the place. I didn’t think I was up to receiving his knowing looks.

Space shift it was.

Picturing an open area of my bed chamber, I closed my eyes and envisioned my body disintegrating on the air, moving through space to that exact spot, and reintegrating there.

The total silence as I entered my shift was disconcerting. I kept my eyes closed because I still wasn’t used to the lack of movement, or the swirling silver sparkles as the magic altered physical properties and changed their location.

It was a great relief when my feet touched the soft rug of my room and the familiar, sweet scent of Lunar Roses dispelled some of my stink.

I opened my eyes and found that I’d landed exactly where I’d planned. Despite myself I smiled. I was a classic overachiever and nobody was as hard on me as I was when I didn’t live up to expectation.

Heading for the cleansing tube, I gave some thought to removing my clothes first and then decided against it. There was no way I was going to try to peel slimy, wet leather off my body while it was covered in chunks. I stepped into the tube and said, “Pulse on full, soap thirty percent, temp one hundred and four degrees.”

Hot, soapy water rained down on me, hard enough to loosen the chunks and scour off the dried demon blood. I stayed under there for long enough to deplete the hot water supply and then exchanged the water for hot air. By the time my below-the-shoulder length hair was close to dry, my televisual was dinging for my attention.

I thought about ignoring it but, being a bit anal about doing the right thing, a complimentary personality trait to go with the over-achiever in my nature, I headed toward the device with a sigh. “Answer call.”

My sister’s pretty face swam online and I mentally prepared for one of our “conversations”.

Astra’s long auburn hair curled wildly around her face, her green gaze widening as she took me in. “Tough day at the office?”

I frowned. “Why do you ask?”

“You have a large, blue eyeball stuck to the top of your head.”

I gave an embarrassing girly scream and reached up to knock the eyeball loose. Unfortunately, it didn’t budge. It seemed to be molded to the strands of my hair like it had been glued there. “Arghhhh! Ish!!”

Astra twisted her lips, obviously trying not to laugh. “You’ll probably need to cut that out of your hair. Demon parts are like chewing gum. They stick hard.”

I barely squelched the desire to growl. “I’m gonna kill Slayer.”

Both of Astra’s slender auburn eyebrows lifted. “What did he do now?”

“He talked me into blasting a Super Demon but he didn’t mention it would implode all over me.”

Astra gave in to the desire to smile. “Let me guess, he was somewhere far behind you when it happened, not a hair out of place?”

I let the growl loose. I figured my sister would understand.

She chuckled happily.

“I’m really glad you’re entertained.”

She flipped a hand upward. “Remind me to tell you about my visit to a dragon roost with the sexy Slayer sometime. Believe me when I tell you I completely understand.”

Though her words mollified me a tiny bit, I was careful not to let her know. “I doubt you know what it’s like to have an eyeball stuck to your hair.”

She cocked her head, narrowing her gaze. “You’re right. But that finger that’s sticking out of your collar, I’m pretty sure that’s happened to me before.”

I shrieked again, smacking at the cold flesh that was stuck to the collar of my leather jacket and dancing around like a Venutian elephant in a room full of mice. “Get it off!”

Giggling emerged from the televisual.

“I swear to god, Astra. You’re second in line for murdering after Slayer.”

“Don’t get your panties in a twist, Darma. Just take the jacket off and dump it in the chute.”

“Throw away my Lara Croft original hunting jacket? I think not.”

Shortly after I’d started helping Astra at the Angel Network, I’d discovered the ancient human heroine, Lara Croft Tomb Raider and decided I wanted to be just like her. I promptly got myself some sexy and indestructible leather clothing and started modeling my hunting persona after the feisty female. I was pretty sure Lara wouldn’t throw away a perfectly good jacket just because it had part of a demon stuck to it.

Astra shrugged. “Well, you could always put a sparkly ring on the digit and paint the fingernail a happy pink color.”

I closed my eyes, intending to count to a hundred so I didn’t shriek foul words at the televisual. I think I made it to ten…

“Darma?”

“End call.”

Astra blinked away and I felt instantly better. “If God loved me he would have made me an only child.”

It’s a lot of pressure to put on one feisty halfling…but Astra Q Phelps is definitely…erm…certainly…ahh…possibly up to the challenge.

EXCERPT:

Dialle dropped his head to kiss me before I could bolt away. Despite my discomfort at kissing Dialle in front of Emo, my heart took up the beat that was playing itself out in my lower regions. Heat, sharp and molten ran through my body at the touch of his lips and I closed my eyes and leaned into him before I realized what I was doing. When I opened my eyes a moment later we were standing in Dialle’s chambers and Emo wasn’t.

I also became aware that Dialle had climbed up my shirt and was making himself very familiar with the geography of a part of my body that is not considered a public access area by the Astra Q. Phelps dating committee of one (that’s me). I cursed and pushed his hands away just as the door crashed back against the wall and spat Gerch at us.

“My Prince. I’m sorry to…interrupt…” I glared at him and saw just the tiniest tipping up of one side of his wide, craggy lips. “But the king has requested your presence in his rooms.”

I grinned. Saved again. Dialle cursed. “Tell him to go to Heaven.”

Gerch’s lips twitched but, soldier-like, he managed to hold the smile in check. “My Prince, do you think that’s wise?”

Dialle’s answering glare very nearly succeeded in banishing his Captain’s smile into the shadows, never to be seen again. Gerch lowered his head and body in the tiniest bow. “As you wish.” But he didn’t leave the room.

Dialle cursed again and paced away from me. I found his response to his father’s summons singularly interesting. Despite my extreme weariness I couldn’t help the spark of interest that gave me new energy. It might be fun to meet Dialle the First if he could make my Dialle so deliciously nervous and pissed off.

After a minute Dialle’s gaze shot toward the waiting Gerch and he sighed. “Oh hell! All right, Gerch. Wait outside the door for a minute while Astra and I finish our…business.”

Yikes! That so wasn’t what I had in mind. My eyes went round and my mouth opened to argue but I didn’t get the chance. Dialle was on me like bristle hairs on an elephant before I could say, diddley squat.

My traitorous body melted against him almost as soon as his lips met mine. My world suddenly became a small bubble of musky heat and shared air that caused my limbs to tighten with need even as they turned to warm, flexible rubber.

Dialle’s eyes, blue again, burned into me as he pulled those incredibly soft lips from mine and trailed his hot, red tongue across my lips. I gasped. I could have sworn the touch sizzled against my tender, swollen lips. “I’m damned.” I said on a need-charged sigh.

New Release – Mavim: Book 2 Alphas of the Blood

SanguiBook2

She called out to him through time and space…an impossible dream…a hopeful imagining. Having heard her plea, he would not stop until he’d claimed her.

Mavim aches for the woman he left behind on Sanguinoss. She was a princess, a member of the royal family of elite vamps. His Amante…his love. Though he dreams of her every night, and pines for her every single day, he knows he cannot have her. He believes her dead.

But when Mavim intercepts the ghost of a communication from his lovely Fania, a communication which was probably engaged weeks or months earlier, he realizes she might still live!

Can Mavim find the only woman he’s ever loved and save her from an evil nemesis who covets her for his own and will stop at nothing to have her? Or will he finally look into his lover’s eyes…touch her satin skin…only to feel her slip from his grasp all over again?

flame

Mavim AgDurness closed his eyes and set his jaw against the ravening blood lust. His stomach growled its need, the muscles around it tightening as it twisted hungrily. He’d gone longer and longer without taking sustenance of late, so the debilitating hunger had become a nearly constant companion over his months on the primitive planet. Though the surface of the thriving alien planet called Earth was covered in walking, talking edibles, snacking from them was like eating nothing but mealfollows. All empty calories and no real sustenance.

Mavim snacked only when his body absolutely demanded it. And then only quickly, in the dark, with such a sense of revulsion he could barely keep the blood from boiling back up and spewing out on his shoes.

Always when he fed, he would see her face. So pale, so perfect. It was his undoing. For Mavim, no other female would do. None could take her place.

So he suspected he would simply fade away over time, as was the Sangui way of dying. And be launched into the sky for his final journey to Maja, protector of souls. Then his pain would finally end.

The comm unit spat sparks and sound flared briefly from it. Mavim’s head snapped up in surprise and crashed against the underside of the console. He swore in several intergalactic languages and pushed out from under the console, grabbing his tools as he moved into the open.

The ship’s communications had been fried when they crossed the atmospheric barriers to Earth, and he’d been trying to get them working again for months, scavenging resources from other parts of the ship and trying to repurpose things he’d managed to locate on Earth.

It had been long since the Sangui had heard from others of their kind. Though only a relative few had managed to escape the dying planet Sanguinoss, the small band of elite vampires living on Earth were keenly aware of the existence of others who’d escaped before the infection took them down.

And even more keenly aware of those who hadn’t managed to escape.

The lights on the comm flared to life and a blurry figure appeared briefly before snapping into blackness again.

It had spun too quickly through the visual cogs within the unit to be recognizable, but Mavim had been able to tell it was a woman.

Lights flared again. The same shape, slightly clearer this time, exploded onto the screen. “Mav…” Renegade star spikes ate the rest of the transmission, turning the words she spoke to a garbled mash. But Mavim had heard enough to make his pulse jump. He dropped his tools and slammed a hand over the comm, quickly adjusting levers until the image he’d seen flashed past again and then snapping a lock on the transmission before it could fitz away.

The pale oval staring back at him was marred by filth. The rich mahogany brown of her curls lank with oil. But the lush, cranberry lips were unmistakable.

The soft lilt of her bedroom voice distinctive.

Mavim had heard it every night in his dreams since he’d risked life and future to place her mangled form inside a burial capsule and send her on her final passage to Maja.

“Mav… Help… Gleschutions have tak…”

And there the transmission faded away, leaving behind only the terrified gaze of the woman he loved above all else. And the horrifying realization that she was in danger. And that she’d risked everything to try to get word to him.

Mavim touched the screen, tracing it with a shaky finger as tears slipped hot and unnoticed down his cheeks.

Blood tears.

Tears of deep, unending agony.

Then the comm blinked out again and her visage was ripped from his sight. Mavim threw back his head and roared, mad with the agony of her loss. Yet again.

New Release – FairySmacked – Gay Erotic Paranormal by Declan Sands

FairySmacked_3D

Chasing bounties comes natural to a bloodhound shifter. Except when the bounty is a sexy earth fairy with an attitude.

Bounty Hunter Matthew Blood is a Bloodhound shifter from the planet Eninac. Rum is an earth fairy who left the fairy mound to save some kidnapped fae. When they learn they might be pursuing the same people, they decide to join forces. Unfortunately, Blood soon discovers that fairy dust isn’t the only addictive thing about a fairy!

~~*~~

The dog snuffled him, whining as he flicked a hand to send it away. Bail Enforcement Agent Matthew Blood was on a case, and he didn’t have time for the usual displays of canine worship.

The man across the street climbed out of his car and stretched. He’d been on the road pretty much all day. He’d gone north again — Matt suspected he’d gone to Michigan, though he’d lost him around South Bend.
The little dog licked Matt’s arm and he growled, low and deep in his throat. Yelping with alarm, the cute bitch scurried away. But she didn’t go far. She dropped to her haunches beneath an abandoned car, her eyes periodically glowing red in the headlights arcing into a turn at the nearby intersection.

Matt returned his attention to the skip and found the street empty. “Fuck!” Glaring at the little dog, he quickly stripped, dropped to all fours, and shifted. He slid from the shadows and padded across the street.
Scenting the area around the car, Matt took care to keep his long ears out of a shiny puddle of dirty oil as he gathered as much information as he could from the odors surrounding the car and the spot where the skip had been standing.

The car was covered with a variety of aromas, many of them from another place. The salty tang of Great Lakes sand overlaid the smell of asphalt and rich, black earth trapped in the tire tread.

He padded around to the car door and focused on the bail fugitive’s scent. The man was tired, nervous — evidenced by the strong odor of sweat — and he’d had chili for dinner. The chili wasn’t sitting well in his stomach.

The bail fugitive also smelled like the product he’d been illegally carrying from Indiana to Michigan for months. The reason he’d been arrested. He’d never stopped his illegal activities, and he’d proven himself to be a runner. He should never have been let out on bail in the first place.

But Matt wouldn’t tell the cops that when he brought him in. He’d just take the certified copies of the arrest warrant and the undertaking and get paid for snagging the guy. If the guy ran again he’d get paid again. And there was no danger he’d escape Matt. With his special qualities and off-Earth monitoring technology, Matt could find and bring any skips he wanted back to jail. If his employee wanted to bond them back out again it was no skin off his talented nose.

Said nose lead Matt to the front door of a soot-stained brick building, where the skip’s scent trail was cut off. He shoved at the door with his nose but it was firmly shut. He’d have to shift back to follow the skip inside.
Matt loped back toward the alley where he’d shed his clothes, thinking that a race of creatures which could trace its roots back millennia, with technology allowing them to travel the universe to distant planets, should have come up with a fix for the opposable thumb issue.

He rounded the corner to the alley and the little bitch lifted her head, happily wagging her grubby tail. She gave him a single bark in greeting. Matt’s bark wasn’t quite as happy. But it served to get her off his pile of discarded clothes.

There was a soft sound, like a gasp of supercharged air, as he was pulling on his last shoe. Matt’s head shot up. Glass shattered out into the night, followed by a dull, meaty thud. Still working his way into his sneaker, Matt hobbled back out to the street and found his skip, lying in a spreading pool of his own blood on the glass-strewn sidewalk.

A sharp intake of breath from above drew Matt’s gaze, four stories up, where a pale, handsome face was outlined by the jagged remains of the broken window. A terrified gaze locked onto his.

“Well, shit!” Matt started running even as the face disappeared from view. It looked like he’d be bringing a murderer to the police, rather than a lowly, dead drug smuggler.

Matt hit the locked exterior door and reared back, kicking it hard. The flimsy door slammed inward and he hit the stairs, moving at superhuman speed toward the floors above.

Footsteps pounded over his head, accompanied by the sound of terrified breathing as, presumably, the man he’d seen in the window above was making a run for it. A slim, dark form flashed by the top of the stairs as Matt hit the fourth floor landing and he leapt, hitting the runner mid-body and sending him sprawling sideways with a yelp of alarm.

They skidded across the thin, dirty carpet and hit the wall opposite the stairs. The man beneath him started swinging, his fists glancing off Matt’s face and shoulders as he fought desperately to get free.

Matt struggled to hold him down while trying to still the man’s flailing arms and legs. The man’s breath wheezed in and out of his chest and beads of sweat flew as his desperation increased. Matt’s sensitive nose scented ozone just before one of the flailing fists connected to Matt’s temple and his head snapped sideways. It was a good shot for such a slender assailant, and it caught Matt off guard.

Blood ran from his nose, and he saw stars. Light flashed, heat flared, and Matt flew backward and hit the wall hard. The edges of his vision folded inward and turned black as slipped down the wall and passed out.

New Release! An Apocalyptic Need

AnApocalypticNeed

She might be the enemy. He might have to take her down. But all he really wants to do is make slow, sweet love to her.

Grimm Forbes has been captured by sexy spaceship Captain Cari Pascale and turned into her sex vassal. But, as alliances conspire to take down his old friends at the Authority, Grimm worries that the woman who ignites his sexual fantasies might be at the epicenter of the treachery. It’s possible he’ll have to make a choice between his friends and the woman he wants in his bed. He only prays he has the strength to make the right decision, because the consequences of making the wrong one will be apocalyptic.

~~*~~

Grimm tossed and turned on the too-soft bed. His body was hot, hard and ached with unfulfilled lust. He’d managed to doze a few times throughout the long, long night, but each time he’d been flung awake when Captain Cari Pascale entered his dreams, soft and sexy and lushly naked.

In his dreams he’d tasted her sweet flesh, spread her luscious thighs, and kissed his way over the soft, rounded contours of her body. But each time, before he could plunge deep within her willing flesh, his traitorous body had surged awake.

Denying him over and over again.

Grimm turned his head and found her, a small rise along the floor beside her bed. Her long, blond tresses glowed brightly, a brilliant star in the near dark. He’d already figured out how to open his cell door. But she was a light sleeper and he wasn’t sure he could get to her before she woke. The element of surprise was important. Or he’d find himself facing her oxygen blaster.

Seduction didn’t work as well when firepower was involved.

A soft sound brought Grimm’s gaze snapping around. For a moment he thought he’d imagined it, but then the door to Cari’s quarters slid open on a breath of air. His fingers closed around the knife he’d stolen from his guard earlier that day, certain that whoever entered was up to no good.

A tall figure slipped through the door, stepping into the shadows as it slid closed again. Grimm squinted into the dark, trying to see the intruder. The narrow light bands arrayed along the floor illuminated a large pair of black boots and the glint of something long and metal in a gloved hand.

A blade! Cari!

The attacker could kill her before she even knew she was in danger. Alarm flared and Grimm tensed, ready to leap up and distract the intruder long enough for Cari to arm herself. He very slowly pulled the blankets away from his legs so he wouldn’t get tangled in them when he lunged.

The figure across the room shifted, his hand with the knife coming up as he took a step.

Grimm braced himself against the frame of the narrow bed, ready to leap.

But the figure with the knife didn’t move toward Cari. He started toward Grimm.

Grimm expelled a soft breath, loosening his bunched muscles as he relaxed back into the bed. The intruder was there for him.

That was good. He was ready.
